This summer we worked on the Bad a Cheo windfarm in Caithness for our client NES who were contracted by the developer Innogy to provide ornithological services. In addition to providing a small number of bird surveys we were also contracted to deliver bird deterrence measures as the site moved into construction mode. This involved having a 7 day a week presence on the site in terms of surveyors walking around the proposed construction areas to try and encourage birds to breed away from sensitive areas. When birds did nest we actively worked with the developer, and site agent Farrans, to set up exclusion areas to ensure that birds nested without disturbance.
